Acne solutions often involve a large variety of medicines, but it is important that you find out few things like your skin type and the severity of acne before starting with medical solutions for acne.

If you have oily skin, then you should use gel-based products and if your skin is dry, then you should use an acne cream. If your skin is sensitive, then you should avoid strongly medicated products or your situation may get worse.

There is a wide range of medical acne treatment options including topical antibiotics, topical retinoids, oral medications, hormonal therapies and corticosteroids.

Medical acne solutions include medicines which can either be rubbed onto the skin called topical medication, or taken in tablet form called oral medication.

Several types of topical medicines that are used to treat acne include different antibiotics, Benzoyl Peroxides, Tretinoin, Adapalen and strong, yet effective Azelaic Acid.

Topical retinoids, which are medicines based on vitamin A, can be rubbed into the skin once or twice a day. Topical medicines usually use chemicals like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, which may make the skin to flake off thus causing irritation in the initial stages of treatment. Tretinoin, another form of topical drug for acne, is simply a form of vitamin A that stops the development of inflamed hair follicles

Oral medications include oral antibiotics that work pretty much the same way as topical ones, but these antibiotics are used as a systemic therapy as they reduce the bacterial population in sebaceous follicles. Of the oral antibiotics that might be prescribed, oral erythromycin is safe even for use in pregnant women and very young children.

Oral antibiotics are prescribed for inflammatory type of acne and they help by killing off bacteria that infect the skin. Hormonal therapies are formulated to lessen the acne-promoting effects of androgenic hormones. Oral contraceptives are the most famous type of oral hormonal acne solutions available, but this medication cannot be given to men.

Corticosteroids are powerful anti-inflammatory medications and are prescribed by physicians only for severe acne. It is a good idea to consult a physician before starting any kind of acne treatment, as they are able to suggest a treatment that will suit the personal needs of every individual.
